Happy 2016

Happy New Year everyone!

For lots of reasons, 2015 was terribly sucky for me.
It wasn't a case of me being negative - it just sucky and there was really nothing that I could have done to reduce it's suckiness - no positive thinking, no lifestyle changes, nothing like that, I seemed to

Fitness? Schmitness!

For the last two weeks (or thereabouts) I've been trying to become fitter, and to lose weight.
Apart from the great chocolate cake investigation, where I was trying to find an edible sugar-free chocolate cake, I have been eating really really well. Hardly any carbs, minimal sugar, vegies galore and more water than you'd believe. I've cut out my normal sugary white tea and porridge for breakfast and having green tea and weight loss smoothies instead. No bread, no pasta, no rice, no potatoes, etc etc etc.
I've been walking and skating and generally moving all the time - Buddy has started walking all the time so chasing him has helped.
Last night I attempted my Level 2 test for roller derby and ended up absolutely knackered and my legs felt like jelly.
Afterwards I weighed myself to see how the weight loss is going, and I've gained a kilogram.

Maybe weight loss is not for me?

PS I still have not passed my Level 2 roller derby test.

April 16 - MY VICE
It sounds terrible, but my vice is putting my hand up to do stuff. I just usually don't have any time, and I get frustrated and I yell at The Man and I result in staying up well past my bedtime sorting things out. Ridiculous.
PS. How small do my hands look in proportion to my wrists. Ugh.

Photo bomb - March 1 2014

March 1 - YELLOW
Yellow there*!
This was supposed to be a forced perspective photo with the ball chasing The Man and Honey down the street.
It didn't work.
But it does look OK so here it as my FatMumSlim photo for today.
I've also started using my real camera for the March photos.
LOL - I don't even know what I'm doing.

*Once I said 'Yellow' when answering the phone at work and it was the boss on the other end and he was none-too-pleased with my lack of professionalism. Then years later when my now-husband who also worked at the same place told them I was pregnant (with Honey), he inferred that I was a teenage girl of limited morals who had trapped my husband with my web of deceit.
Perhaps true, but I wasn't a teenager at the time.

** I did not trap him with my web of deceit.
*** At least I don't think I did.

Feb 19 - FEET
This is Honey's left foot*. When she was born, she had a positional talipes calcaneus:
Positional: It was muscular and caused by the way she was squished while she was cooking.
I had something called IUGR which means she was too squashed when she was in my belly.
Talipes: It is a type of club foot - but not the type you generally see with the person's foot turned into the middle
Calcaneus: It involved the muscles in her heel.

Honey's foot was just like the one in the middle of the top row. We called it her 'duck foot'.
Thankfully because the cause (being mashed up in utero) was removed, her foot eventually relaxed and now if you didn't know that she had a club foot, you couldn't tell now, although her health nurse said she'd never be an Olympic sprinter. Pfft. Like I could afford to send her all over the globe as an athlete.

I realised after posting this photo that I had photographed the wrong foot. Meh.

Feb 15 - MY DRINK OF CHOICE
I escaped my house to buy a chai latte for this prompt. It was delicious, and I also got some scones and jam and cream. Yum.

Feb 14 - HEART
Look at this beautiful creature!
"Smile" I said, but she was too distracted by the sparkly shoes in the shop window to pay any attention to me.
The lollipop was from a fundraiser for HeartKids. Buddy and I weren't allowed to have any, but then Honey went to sleep, and we took turns eating her lollipop. Buddy stuck his tongue out and I'd dab the lollipop onto his tongue and that tiny tiny bit of sugar made him hyper and crazy. He's a funny man.

Water warning **PLEASE READ**

I've thought about it, and I will tell you about what happened yesterday to make me aware that Honey is not as good swimmer as I thought she was.

Call this a pre-emptive warning. I certainly have heeded what happened!

Yesterday was Buddy's first trip to the pool, and just like when we took Honey for her first swim, we wanted to get lots of pictures to remember how he liked the water, what he wore, what we wore, etc, etc.

You know where this is going, don't you?

Honey started swimming lessons when she was six months old and continued them right up until just before Buddy was born, when she took a term off. Admittedly, she had not been in the pool for a long time, but I thought she'd be OK for a moment.

When we got to the pool, Honey was mega-excited and jumped into the toddler pool where I was watching her to see how she was going. The Man grabbed my phone and tried to take a picture of Buddy but was failing, and so I jumped out to take a picture or eleven.

We literally took our eyes off Honey for five seconds, when The Man said Honey was in trouble.

I turned around and saw Honey face down in the water, just floating in 30cm of water, I don't know how she got to be there. Maybe she wasn't used to walking in the water (you know, how it slows you down - she's never walked unassisted in the water as her swimming lessons are in a rehab pool and she can't touch the bottom), or perhaps she tried to swim? I don't know.

It happened so quickly that no one else noticed that she was struggling. I jumped into the water and hauled her out as The Man still was holding Buddy, and Honey just stared glassy-eyed at me for a few seconds (the longest five seconds of my life) before she snorted half of the pool out of her nose and started crying.

Poor love, she was scared out of her mind. And then she wouldn't go into the pool without holding my hand. Then when she actually got into the pool, she wouldn't move from where she was standing. Finally by about the time we had to go home, she'd decided the water wasn't that bad and was playing happily.

I however lost ten years of my life, and can't forgive myself for not watching her. It could have been much much worse than it was.
