Fully aware that I am behind on my photos
I know, I have not posted photos over the last few (THREE!) days.
It is a side-effect of my self-imposed challenge to only use my DSLR* to take photos.
It means I need to go and get my photos off the camera and the other day I just had a serious case of the CBFs, but tonight when I get home from work I'll get my photos off the camera and put them here and I'll be right back to where I need to be.
SO this week I have been to a little tiny town called Llanelly where my dad and brother were in a motorcycle rally. The Man and I crashed their Saturday night dinner and I've convinced my dad to take Buddy and Honey for a ride on one of his motorcycles. I went for my first motorbike ride when I was three months old and its time that they had a go.
And in other news, I am thinking about my 'challenge' for the month of April. What do you reckon I should do?
Opposites?
Songs that the prompts remind me of?
All in black and white?
Having a little Lego man in each of my photos?
I don't know...
*listen to me talking fancy about photos and such. A DSLR is a digital S... L... er... R camera.

Feb 21 - FUNNY |
Tonight I went to the last of a series of self defence classes and I'd run out of shorts to wear, so I borrowed The Man's swimming shorts which have been with him since before we'd even met. The Man is skinnier than I. Halfway through the session I was thinking how the pants felt more roomy and how somehow I must have dropped a few kilos off my backside during the training session. Then someone said that my pants had torn a bit, and they just got worse and worse as the session continued.
The instructor asked me if they were likely to fall off. I decided that if they did decide to fall off, I'd go home wrapped in one of the flags that were hanging in the training hall.
It was very lucky that I was wearing my too-big roller derby shirt as it sort of disguised my gleaming white leg that was hanging out of my pants.

Feb 12 - OUT + ABOUT |
About my skates: They are purple Suregrip Rebels with Atom Poison wheels, Sourpuss laces, Gumball toe stops and Miss Demeanour Hello Kitty toe guards. They are as heavy as a brick, but they do the job and I like them.

2014: The Year of the Dragon
So I do roller derby.
Do you know what that is?
If you don't, think a cross between rugby and ballet on roller skates. Drew Barrymore made a movie about it starring Juno. Lots of cool people in Bendigo and surrounds do it.
(Other derby enthusiasts might have a better way of describing it than me, but its very graceful, very tough and it's all done on quad skates). You have to have respect for anyone who does it well. And those who do do it well get awesome derby names like Smashley Simpson* and Babe Ruthless* and Maggie Mayhem*.
I am what's called freshmeat which means I'm at the bottom level of training which means when I do go to training (I've slacked a bit since Honey was in hospital and then I was trying to finish uni) I usually watch the other girls and boys zoom past me because I'm a wee bit uncoordinated and I get frustrated with the stuff I can't do
BUT
I am very very gradually getting better.
My league, Dragon City Derby Dolls are having a freshmeat intake in a couple of weeks and they want YOU! to come and have a try. And who knows? You might love it.
So how about it? Will you come and have a go? DCDD are having an open day and for a gold coin donation you can come and see one of Bendigo's best sport teams showing off the skills which make them awesome.
*These are characters from 'Whip It', the Drew Barrymore movie I was talking.about earlier. The derby names of the boys and girls in DCDD are much better and much cleverer.

Making things: Healthy Chocolate Cake
So as you know (or might not), I have been going to the gym.
To boot I have decided to start eating a 12WBT-ish diet which basically means I have googled a tonne of low-carb meals to eat. It means a lot of cooking, and I'm taking The Man along for the ride, but so far so good.
Except...
In the last week since I pretty much gave up Coke, potatoes and bread cold turkey, I have been waking up in the night dying for a sugar hit. It's madness! I wake up and creep around the house looking for chocolate or lollies or whatever I can get my sticky fingers on. In the morning The Man identifies what I've been nibbling on because I've left morsels of it everywhere. Ooops.
So I googled a recipe for a chocolate cake that was weight-loss friendly, and found this recipe for a chocolate cake at Healthy Indulgences.
I'll let you look at it, but it has a very surprising ingredient in it, that I had heaps of in my cupboard but never in my wildest imagination associated with chocolate cake.
It's a bit of a Choose Your Own Adventure recipe, with alternative combinations of ingredients depending on your preference.
I used coconut oil instead of butter, and I used honey and stevia for the sweetening. I also had to pretty much double the cooking time as the raw cake mixture is quite liquid.
I'd take a photo of it for you, but my iPhone has taken a walk and I can't find it**. When I do find it, I will post up a picture of the cake. But to describe it, it is very dark, and flattish, and I cooked it in a larger cake tin than I was meant to.
And as today, my beautiful child has had a gastric incident, I might just eat chocolate cake (for the sake of research) instead of cooking dinner. And I am very hungry so I don't expect the cake to last long.
If you make the cake let me know how you went. Perhaps I did something wrong in the mixing to make it so liquid? Not sure.
**By the same token, today's photo bomb will be delayed as the pictures I took are on my phone. *sigh* the one time I did my pictures early.

Monday. Enough said.
So now I've been to the gym. Buddy woke up at 4:30am to make sure he was fed and back to bed before the gym opened. Usually he wakes up at 6-6:30am.
Gee thanks little man.
Now he is back asleep, but Honey is up. I think we can totally disregard what I said yesterday about the predictable nature of my children.
My arms feel sore, and floppy because I actually used them to exercise today. I was meant to do something or other, but ended up flailing my arms around towards the ground, and then up into the air. I am not very coordinated.
So now I am sitting on the couch watching Angelina Ballerina. I am using this early time of day to potty train Honey, and I've just had to do the potty dance to celebrate a successful wee. I also rewarded her with a TNCC Berry Bliss (a raspberry lolly but with a juicy inside). Didn't think we'd have any sub-breakfast wees any time soon, but in the interests of keeping things constant because Honey would commit serious crimes for a 'berry'.
In fact, she's brought me two unopened packets of 'berries' and now she's come and given me a hug and a kiss - which is lovely but I know she knows that flattery will get you to a lot of places. But won't get you an unearned lolly before breakfast time.
The Man is up and about, dealing with having two people up and bothering him when he is getting ready for work.
Today's plan is to take more photos of Buddy and Honey and something that is yellow for FatMumSlim. It is supposedly meant to be hot and I am dressed accordingly, but my weather app on my phone says its 12 degrees, and meant to be a top of 27 which is a poor excuse for a January day in Central Victoria.
Ah! There is the sound of my son calling me for food. I must go. I'll be back later with today's photo bomb.

Early-ness
Tomorrow I am *planning* to go to the gym after Buddy's first feed of the day (6am) and I keep alternating between thinking how great it will be to do exercise, and forgetting that I intend to get out of bed early and thinking of excuses about how to sleep longer.
It's quite confusing and I wonder which side of me will win - the determined side or the lazy side.
*sigh* my life is an eternal struggle between these two mes.
But my gym-ming will take 30 minutes, plus warm up and cool down, and so in theory I will be home and ready to take on the midgets by 8am. Seeing as the big midget is not a normal toddler, she doesn't rise until 8:30, and Buddy will only wake up when he wants more food.
Erk, 6am feels so early but if I don't go to the gym then, I won't go at all.
And I need to get my fitness up so I can try out roller derby in a month or so. I wanted to join in their last 'fresh meat' intake but apparently being full of bebbeh precludes you from roller derby. Or roller skating. Or any physical exertion at all.
I had one tab on my white belt which is the highest sporting achievement of my life. |
Also I was a sook and decided I had forgotten anything I'd ever learnt. I wasn't a very good BJJ student. But I like to think that if I need them, I can channel some pretty good BJJ moves. Maybe. Now I am just a BJJ groupie.
I need a mouthguard for roller derby, and I can buy them from a chemist BUT I have a proper moulded one from the dentist (its name is Lindsay and its green) so all I need to do now is buy the rest of the derby stuff, like skates and helmet and knee pads and elbow pads and wrist guards and, and, I suppose I better start saving.
And it is LATE and I need to go to bed so I am awake and FRESH for the gym, so good night.
PS, if you've read this post, please comment. So many people have said they have read this blog (and really, it's neither here nor there if people read what I write because I talk even if people aren't listening, but I hope people don't feel like they need to tell me they read the blog when they don't just so I don't cry or anything) and it'd be nice to see who these people are.
Alrighty, off to bed.
Nigh nigh!
